Welcome to Wyong Writers in 2020
Despite the pandemic we are still operating. Keep reading.
This is intended for members and visitors. We hope members will check out dates and other useful information, and that visitors to the website will be inspired to come along to a Wyong Writers meeting via Zoom.
Yes, all this is possible via Zoom meetings.
Learn to improve your writing
Meet other interesting people
Share your writing with others
Learn more about getting published
All this – and more – within the supportive environment of a friendly group of like-minded writers on the Central Coast.
People of all ages who are interested in writing poems, short stories, novels or their own life story are welcome. You can expect encouragement and support. You’ll pick up practical writing tips and have fun along the way.
These are the main Wyong Writers meetings. These are always on a Saturday, and are open to members, visitors and new members. Details on both the meetings and programme pages.
Monday Afternoon Scribblers
These meetings take place in addition to our main monthly meetings. They are only open to members and are held on Mondays except for public holidays. These are specifically in order to critique each other’s work and are more close-knit, informal gatherings than our monthly meetings.
Monday Scribblers can help you want to get input and feedback on:
- that Great Aussie novel you are writing
- the short story you want to enter into a competition
- your poetry (for those poets amongst us)
- or any other piece of writing you want to improve
We have a maximum number for this group, and are currently full. We have a waiting list, with the possibility of new people being invited to participate as guests. We are hoping for a second critiquing group to be set up.
“Wyong Writers gives me the encouragement I need with my writing.” Elizabeth
“After our group exercise using all five senses, I find I can write much more vivid descriptions now.” Derek
“Since I joined Wyong Writers on the Central Coast, I have had lots of success in various literary competitions. The encouragement of being with other writers always gets me moving.” Beryl
“When I get writers block I take great heart from the support of other members of Wyong Writers, who support me to keep going.” Yvonne
“I enjoy the stimulation of being given interesting writing topics and also belonging to a friendly writing group.” Mavis
We are an autonomous branch of the Fellowship of Australian Writers and a registered non-profit making organisation.
Attend the first two months meetings totally free – When not in a pandemic, you even get free tea or coffee at the tea break.
And if you decide you want to join us thereafter, the current annual FAW membership is just $40 per year.
Your membership fee goes to FAW. It is not kept by Wyong Writers. We therefore request $5.00 per member at each meeting towards the cost of using Zoom.
See our meetings page for meeting details.
